Josha went to scout camp for his first time last week. He left on Monday and returned on Saturday. They went to Camp Hunt @ Bear Lake. It was wierd to have him gone that long. That was his longest trip from home. There were only 2 other scouts from our troop who went also. Three deacons. I felt kind of bad for Josh because these are not boys he hangs out with. (not that there are any boys in our ward he hangs out with as there are none his age!?!) But they had planned the High Adventure activity the same week so the older boys and most of the Y.M. leaders were involved in that. I couldn't help but to think back at Girl's Camp and what a great bonding experience that was between ALL the girls and leaders. It would have been a bummer to only go with the Beehives and the camp director. I hope there is some better planning next year!
Josh had a great time and quickly made friends from other troops. He earned his first merit badge and is close to several more. Joe went up Wed. morning and stayed unitl Thurs. morning. The last thing I told him before he walked out the door was to remember his sleeping bag. Guess what he forgot? So needless to say he had a pretty cold, miserable night under Joshua's towel. Isn't the Boy Scout motto: "Be Prepared"? Just wondering. Josh begged Joe to stay. If it hadn't been for a meeting he had to be to, and no sleeping bag, he probably would have. When Josh came home he said he cried himself to sleep that night because he was so homesick. I was proud of him for sticking it out! He has too much of his dear ole' Mom in him!
When he came home Sat. morning I was home alone preparing a lesson I had to give Sunday. It was great to see him. Every time he goes a little longer and comes back a little taller. I was very proud of him and it was nice to have him all to myself and hear about all of his adventures. He was glad he went and was thankful for Chris Casey for taking the time to take 3 deacons to scout camp. Thanx Chris!!
